Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer publicly supported Asia Bibi and criticized Pakistan’s blasphemy law. On 4 January 2011, one of his own police guards assassinated him in Islamabad.
Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old university student, was lynched in Mardan in 2017 after being accused of blasphemy. A later official investigation found no evidence supporting the allegation.
